Ralph Vernon
Howe Ralph Vernon Howe, age 81, Mayhew
Road, Jackson, born February 23, 1927 in Scioto County,
left the bonds of this world on Saturday, November 8,
2008, surrounded by his loving family, Pastor Janie
Karl, and the support of the Select Specialty Hospital
staff. He fought a valiant battle to recover from
accidental injuries he suffered several months ago in
his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph
and Grace Howe, beloved wife of 59 years Betty Lou, son
Gregory Vernon and brother and sister-in-law, Rich and
June Ervin.
He leaves to cherish his memory his
son William, niece Virginia (Bill) Carey, nephew Rich
(Bev) Ervin, and five great nephews and their
families.
Mr. Howe was a lifetime member of
Trowel Lodge 132 F & AM. His first jobs were in
local foundries. He then went to work at the D.T.&
I. Railroad and finished his career with 33-plus years
as a cascade operator at Goodyear Atomic Corporation. He
owned and operated Howe's Farm Machinery for over 25
years. He also farmed the home place farm on Mayhew
Road. He was an avid horseman and happiest when in the
sulky behind one of the standard breed pacers. Until the
time of his passing, he was a member of the United
States Trotting Association and held Class A drivers
license to drive a horse at any raceway in the
continental United States and Canada.
